Martin G. Mattler, 63, of Cos Cob, passed away on February 16 with family members gathered around him, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in the Bronx, NY on July 24, 1950, Marty, as he was known by his family, grew up in Deer Park, NY.
He was the oldest of five brothers and sisters of Irene and the late Eli Mattler. He attended public schools in Deer Park and graduated from the State University of New York at Albany. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Fordham University.
Marty was the founder and president of Countrywide Practice Brokerage, Inc., a firm specializing in the sale and appraisal of dental practices. He spent over 30 years helping dentists buy and sell practices in the greater New York area. He was also active in the professional dental community, lecturing at dental schools and conferences and contributing articles to many dental industry publications.
Marty was an avid sailor and served two terms as Commander of the Greenwich Sail and Power Squadron. He also served two terms on the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting.
Marty is survived by his wife, Risë Mattler, and his son, Zachary. He is also survived by his mother, Irene Mattler, brothers Kevin and Daniel Mattler; sisters Susan Policastri and Sheri Mattler, and several nieces and nephews.
Marty will be lovingly remembered for his compassion, warmth and wonderful sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by all those lucky enough to have known him.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Sholom, 300 E. Putnam Avenue, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20. The family will be receiving shiva visitors at their home, 11 Cottontail Road, Cos Cob, on Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday, the 21st, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Donations in Marty’s memory may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association or Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center.
