Herbert Egli, passed away Friday, June 14 in Greenwich, Connecticut where he and his wife resided since 1963. He was born in Berkeley, California on May 19, 1930.
Herb attended public schools in Berkeley and graduated from The University of California, Berkeley with a degree in economics. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army.
After military service, Herb worked in financial positions for Cutter Laboratories and Magna Tools. He became Chief Financial Officer of SCM Corporation, a public company, and served in that position until the company was sold to a British conglomerate.
Herb was a longtime member of Greenwich Country Club and the Retired Men’s Association. He was also a member of the American Management Association and the Financial Executives Institute.
In retirement, Herb served as treasurer of Greenwich Mews. He also directed a volunteer team preparing individual income tax returns for town residents.
Herb and his wife Janice, enjoyed skiing, tennis and travel. They shared a passion for opera and were subscribers to the Metropolitan Opera for many years.
Herb is survived by his wife, Janice, to whom he was married for 57 years, and a son, Steven Egli of West Yarmouth, Mass. Also surviving are his sisters, Anne Matthew and Margaret Carson, of Walnut Creek, Calif. and a brother, Albert EgIi of Minden, Nev. He was predeceased by his daughter Elizabeth, and his brothers August, Fred and John Egli.
A memorial service will be held at Second Congregational Church of Greenwich on Saturday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. The church is located at 139 East Putnam.
